Four-sector electrode array for dielectrophoresis

This thesis deals with manipulation of small particles using dielectrophoresis. Polystyrene micro-beads ranging from 10 to 250 um in diameter immersed in deionized water were used for experiments. A novel four-sector microelectrode array has been used. The layout of the array enables wide range of planar motions while keeping the the fabrication requirements low. The focus of this thesis was on instrumentation and motion planning strategies. The designated principles were demonstrated at the international microrobotics competition NIST MMC 2012, which took place in St. Paul, USA at IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation.
