3D Camera Calibration

We studied the topic of depth sensing camera calibration. Two devices Microsoft Kinect and Swissranger SR-4000, that work on different physical principles, were investigated.
Both 3D cameras were described and subjected to experiments in order to evaluate their performance. Several systematic error sources were identified and we proposed methods to compensate for them. A comparison of reconstruction performance of both 3D cameras and a stereo-pair of conventional cameras was presented. Finally, we showed an application of the depth sensing camera together with conventional color camera in area of complex scene reconstruction.
